The Barhams of North West Kent

Here you will find what I know about my Barham ancestors, starting with James Barham, probably born in East Kent in about 1720. Several generations of his descendants lived in North West Kent (Swanscombe, Darenth, Sutton-at-hone, Greenhithe, Erith etc) although of course others moved further afield. Much of the research has been the work of Ronald Barham of Blackburn Lancashire who contacted me after seeing this site and to whom I am most grateful.

Despite the fact that James probably came from Kent we have no direct evidence that he was related to the Barhams of Kent and Sussex whose history is published elsewhere on this site. Nevertheless it would seem very likely that there is a connection.

As there could be 1000 or more descendants of James alive today it is hoped that this will be of interest to some and of course if anyone has anything to add or correct and especially if there are any answers to the numerous questions raised please do get in touch.

The history can be downloaded here as a pdf file

NB - THE PAGES ON THIS SITE ARE CURRENTLY BEING UPDATED AND SO THIS FILE WILL NOT CONTAIN THE LATEST INFORMATION.

This is part of the Cary map of Kent from 1787. I have taken one liberty by adding Greenhithe.
